1983

Doors open

A small grocery on Main Street

Mastin's Food Market opens its doors at 54 Main Street in the village of Canaseraga, NY. From day one it's the neighborhood grocery — pizza out of the oven, subs built to order, and shelves stocked with the everyday brands families know.

'80s & '90s

Settling in

Becoming the corner store

Through the late twentieth century, Mastin's becomes the grocery in Canaseraga — the kind of place where the cashier hands the kids a sticker, where a forgotten gallon of milk is ten minutes away, and where snow days, Little League practices, and Friday dinners all run through the front door.

2003

New stewardship

Tom Capwell takes the keys

On January 1, 2003, Tom Capwell Sr. takes ownership of Mastin's. The name on the sign stays the same — and so does the promise: real customer service, fair prices, and quality you'd serve at your own table. Tom keeps the small, hands-on team that the village already knew.

2010s

Steady on

Quietly reliable

As big-box stores swallow up small-town grocers across America, Mastin's stays put. Year after year the State Department of Agriculture & Markets visits the 3,500 sq ft store and, year after year, returns Grade A inspection results. The Better Business Bureau gives it an A+ rating that holds for decades.

2020

Open through it all

A lifeline for the village

When the world gets complicated, a hometown grocery becomes a lifeline. Mastin's stays open through the pandemic, keeping shelves stocked and a friendly face at the register for neighbors who need it most.

Still here, still family

Forty-plus years and counting

Mastin's is open every single day of the week, 8 AM to 9 PM, with the same family-owned promise that opened the doors in 1983. Pizza, subs, dairy, frozen, pantry, snacks — everything a household runs on, in a 3,500-square-foot store you can walk through in five minutes flat.
